Manchester United are considering a swoop for Leicester star Jamie Vardy as Erik ten Hag attempts to revive his stuttering attack, according to reports.
The Red Devils have endured an awful start to the new era at Old Trafford, losing 2-1 at home to Brighton on the opening weekend and following that up with a shocking 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Brentford on Saturday. In that time, United’s only goal came courtesy of Alexis Mac Allister putting the ball in the Seagulls net.
Meanwhile, there are crippling doubts over the long-term prospects of United’s attacking options. Cristiano Ronaldo remains keen to quit Old Trafford before September’s transfer deadline, whilst Marcus Rashford has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain having entered the final 12 months of his Red Devils contract.
Should the pair depart, that would leave Anthony Martial as the club’s only attacking option and even his status at the club has been called into question following a hugely-underwhelming loan spell at Spanish club Sevilla last season.
United are scouring the market for a new striker and, according to The Athletic, Leicester star Vardy is on their shortlist. The report claims the Red Devils are considering a swoop for the 36-year-old, whose contract expires next summer.
However, in news which comes as a blow to United, Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that early talks have taken place over a new deal for Vardy at the King Power Stadium.

Vardy has scored 133 Premier League goals throughout his career, including 15 last term despite his injury-hit campaign.
Should they fail to secure a deal for the 2019/20 Golden Boot winner, United have alternatives on their list. Former Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata has emerged as an option, with Atletico Madrid keen to move the Spaniard on. Espanyol hitman Raul de Tomas is also being eyed as Ten Hag's search for an attacking recruit grows increasingly frantic.
The Red Devils have already been frustrated in their efforts to add to their forward options, with a bid turned down for Bologna’s Marko Arnautovic. The club have already ended their interest in the Austrian, with severe supporter backlash seeing them move on.
Whilst a striker is high on the club’s shopping list in the closing weeks of the window, midfield recruits are also being eyed. Frenkie de Jong has, of course, been a target over the majority of the summer, whilst Juventus star Adrien Rabiot appears to be closing in on a switch to Old Trafford.
