Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick has been told not to try and sign Chelsea forward Timo Werner by former right-back Glen Johnson.
Recent reports have linked interim boss Rangnick with a move to bring Werner to Old Trafford in the summer.
Werner, 25, has struggled in the Premier League and has been in and out of the Chelsea side since joining from RB Leipzig in 2020.
And ex-Chelsea and Liverpool defender Glen Johnson feels the move would be a bad one for both parties.
“I don’t think that’s a good move for either party to be honest,” Johnson told bettingodds.com. “I don’t think it’s a good move for Manchester United and I don’t think it’s a good move for Timo Werner.

“United seem to want to sign any player available in that position which is just madness.
“For me, they signed Jadon Sancho for a position they didn’t need and they’ve got [Cristiano] Ronaldo, [Mason] Greenwood and [Edinson] Cavani. They clearly can’t play all these players and keep them all happy.
“For Timo Werner to thrive then he has to be playing somewhere where he plays every week and at Manchester United he’s not going to do that.”
Werner has made just five Premier League starts for Chelsea this season under Thomas Tuchel, scoring once and registering just a single assist.
But Rangnick’s newly appointed coach Sascha Lense – who joined his backroom staff on Wednesday – could help facilitate the move, given the close ties the sports psychologist has to Werner.
Lense’s daughter, Paula, has been in a relationship with Werner since 2017, and SportBild say the pair met while the Germany international was playing for Leipzig.
Werner has worked with both Rangnick and Lense before at Leipzig, where the 25-year-old thrived in the Bundesliga.

During his final season in Germany, Werner scored 28 times in just 34 Bundesliga games, and 34 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions.
Catalan giants Barcelona – who were dumped out of the Champions League on Wednesday - have also been linked with a shock loan swoop for Werner in January, but whether anything materialises remains to be seen.
Rangnick has also been linked with moves for several other players in the upcoming window including highly-rated Leipzig midfielder Amadou Haidara.
Meanwhile, Rangnick’s second game in charge of United ended in a 1-1 draw against Young Boys.

United went ahead when Mason Greenwood got himself on the end of a Luke Shaw cross in the tenth minute.
But the Swiss champions got themselves back into the game through a wonderful strike by Fabian Rieder just minutes before the half-time interval.
The result means go into the knockout stage as Group F winners, with Atalanta and Villarreal’s re-arranged fixture due to take place on Thursday.
Rangnick will now sit and wait patiently to find out who his side will face in the last-16 of Europe’s premier club competition.
The Champions League draw will take place in Nyon, Switzerland on Monday.
