Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag makes offer to Sky Sports reporter after brutal snub

Erik ten Hag has offered to clear the air with Sky Sports' reporter Gary Cotterill.

The Manchester United boss snubbed Cotterill ahead of United's trip to Southampton on August 26, with Ten Hag refusing to take questions from the Sky journalist. Cotterill was informed before the press conference that Ten Hag would not be taking questions from him, although that did not stop the reporter from asking them.

It is understood Ten Hag's unwillingness to take questions from Cotterill goes back to the reporter door-stepping him at United's final game of last season, at Crystal Palace, after he had just been appointed to the Old Trafford job. Now, Ten Hag has offered to speak to Cotterill and find a solution after banning him from asking questions at his press conferences.

Cotterill is understood to be receptive and peace talks are expected to take place over the next few weeks. According to the Daily Mail, United have not restricted access to the club for any other Sky reporters - indeed Ten Hag has sat down with others for in depth interviews - but they have expressed unhappiness at some of Sky's criticisms of the Glazer family.

Gary Neville has been very vocal about the ownership of the club, while Sky Sports analysed how much money has been taken out of the club by the Glazer family. United are understood to have questioned the balance of Sky's coverage, with Neville and Jamie Carragher receiving plenty of criticism after interviewing Ten Hag prior to the Red Devils' 2-1 win over Liverpool on August 22.

Speaking last week, Cotterill said: "I’m surprised. It was just two people doing their job but I’m assuming he was offended by it. The thing at Palace was him doing his job and not commenting and me doing my job and trying to get a comment. I’m only guessing that was the reason. I haven’t been told. You saw what was said but I don’t think it would be too much of a leap to assume it was about that."

United will be looking to extend their winning run to four matches when they take on Arsenal on Saturday. After a disastrous start to the season, the Red Devils have bounced back by beating Liverpool, Southampton and Leicester City - a run of results that has seen them climb up to fifth in the Premier League table.

Jadon Sancho was the match-winner on Thursday night. It was the second game in a row that United had won by a single goal following Bruno Fernandes ' sole strike against Saints.
