Man Utd are a "mess" with "finished and broken players" slams Gary Neville

Gary Neville described Manchester United as a “mess” with “finished and broken players” after the Red Devils’ chastening 4-0 loss to Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s relentless Reds toyed with Ralf Rangnick’s side, hammering four goals past them without reply, before passing the ball around them as the minutes ticked by. A Mohamed Salah brace coupled with goals from Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane secured another easy victory for the current Premier League leaders.

While the score-line was not quite as bad as the 5-0 humiliation at Old Trafford, there was very little solace for Neville, Roy Keane, and the United fans to take. And the former United captain admitted the situation within Rangnick’s side is about as bad as it can get.

"It is becoming very predictable now because there are some decent players out on that pitch and there is some talent,” Neville said after the match. "So, I have no idea and don’t know how to explain how it has gone from being slightly promising, finishing second last season, to the point of an all time low in my 42 years of watching United.

“I have never seen it as bad as that. I have never seen a Manchester United team wilt in a football game in my 40 years of watching them.

"The players are broken, they are broken players. There are some decent players out there, they have talent and have played at good levels, but they are finished and they are broken this season. It is a mess."

Despite the horror show at Anfield, United still have a slight chance of recovering their season to finish in the top four. While the sheer number of goals conceded saw them fall into sixth place behind Arsenal on goal difference, the Reds are only three points away from fourth placed Tottenham.

However, Neville was not too hopeful, as the former right back stated the end of the season could not come fast enough. "It's a decade of repeated failure and that's not good enough," Neville added.

"Man Utd have got everyone in the country expected tonight. Really in a poor place. The end of the season can't come quick enough. Liverpool are top of their form and it was always going to be difficult.

"This is a broken Man Utd squad in this moment in time. It's on the edge, that's for sure." United interim manager Ralf Rangnick was also struggling to find a positive in the contest, stating a huge overhaul will likely be needed if they are to catch up with Liverool.

"It is embarrassing, it is disappointing, maybe even humiliating,” Rangnick said during his post-match interview. “We have to accept they are six years ahead of us now.

"When Jurgen Klopp came they changed at the club and lifted not just the team but the club and city to a new level. That is what needs to happen with us in the next transfer windows."
