Man Utd announce plans for first-team tour and two matches during World Cup

Manchester United will play a friendly match against La Liga side Cadiz in December as part of a winter training camp during the World Cup.

The match will be the first of two United will play during the mid-season break and will kick off at 7pm UK time on December 7 at the Nuevo Mirandilla stadium, Cadiz.

United's players not involved at the World Cup, which is likely to include David De Gea, omitted from Spain's preliminary squad, will take part in a week-long warm weather training camp in Cadiz under the supervision of coaching staff and boss Erik ten Hag.

United Football Director, John Murtough said: “Erik and the team have made good progress during this first half of the season, and it is important we maintain this momentum coming out of the World Cup break. A winter training camp will be a vital part of the team’s preparations for the second half of the season.

“We have lined up a high-quality local opponent to play against, ensuring match fitness and sharpness is retained. The camp and game will also allow for some of our young talent to experience training and playing in a first team environment, as well as provide entertaining club football for fans.”

Tickets for the match go on pre-sale to United season ticket Holders, official members and Executive Club Members from today, before going on general sale from 1st November. As well as De Gea, those United players likely to miss out on the World Cup – and feature in Cadiz – include England duo Dean Henderson and Jadon Sancho, along with out-of-favour Netherlands midfielder Donny van de Beek.

United full-backs Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Brandon Williams, both yet to earn full England caps, will not be World Cup-bound, along with fellow defenders Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones.

Also not going to Qatar are goalkeepers Martin Dubravka and Tom Heaton, plus Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay and Sweden winger Anthony Elanga, which leaves Ten Hag with a fairly strong squad to take to Cadiz.

United are set to announce another friendly in the coming days, before the squad returns to Manchester to prepare for the resumption of the domestic campaign, which for Ten hag and his players, is on December 27, with an 8pm kick-off against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford.
