Man United XI vs Brighton: Ronaldo starts - Starting lineup, confirmed team news, injuries for Premier League

Ralf Rangnick has made changes as Manchester United face Brighton tonight in the Premier League.

United have been held to back-to-back league draws by Burnley and Southampton, and while their defensive woes have stolen headlines, Rangnick’s men were guilty of missing more than enough chances to put both games to bed having taken the lead.

Edinson Cavani remains out injured so Cristiano Ronaldo leads the line again, but Marcus Rashford loses his place after he was particularly ineffective against Southampton on Saturday, with Anthony Elanga coming in to replace him.

Jadon Sancho’s form has been a bright note in recent weeks and he starts again, while Fred is available again in midfield after his Covid-enforced absence and starts in midfield, as Paul Pogba drops to the bench.

Raphael Varane was picked to start but had to pull out ahead of kick-off due to illness, with Victor Lindelof coming in to replace him.

Harry Maguire has struggled badly in recent weeks but Rangnick had stood by the club’s skipper, while the fit-again Alex Telles has to settle for a place on the bench.

"I think when he came back after his injury he did extremely well," Rangnick said of Maguire on Monday.

"In the past two games, yes he had some weaker moments, against Southampton and when we conceded the goal at Burnley, but he's our captain and I don't see any reason to change that.

"He's a player who has to develop, get better, like all the other players."

Starting XI: De Gea, Dalot, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw, McTominay, Fred, Fernandes, Elanga, Sancho, Ronaldo

Subs: Henderson, Heaton, Telles, Jones, Wan-Bissaka, Lingard, Mata, Pogba, Rashford
