Man United to battle Arsenal for Declan Rice transfer as swap deal offer prepared

It is no secret that Arsenal want to sign West Ham United captain Declan Rice during the summer transfer window.

This month, the Gunners have seen two offers for Rice rejected by the Hammers, who are demanding at least £100 million for their skipper. The north London ouffit had a first bid of £80million plus at least £10million in add-ons rejected last week for the England international before another offer was lodged on Tuesday.

West Ham, however, remain adamant of an English record fee for the 24-year-old with achievable add-on structure with a significant portion of the guaranteed fee paid upfront instead of the staggered payment over six years that had been offered previously, football.london understands. Now, The Telegraph have claimed that Manchester United are considering making a player-plus-cash move for Rice.

Any such deal is said to involve Harry Maguire or Scott McTominay, with David Moyes' side interested in both. Maguire's wage demands could prove to be an issue for the Hammers whilst it remains to be seen whether or not McTominay would make the move to the capital.

Despite United's potential pursuit, the report goes on to claim that Rice is much more likely to join Arsenal. The player is said to want the move to the Emirates Stadium and the Gunners will return with a third offer soon.

The tough-tackling midfielder has made it no secret of his desire to play in the UEFA Champions League sooner rather than later, with both Arsenal and United taking part in Europe's premier competition next term.

“One hundred per cent I want to play in the Champions League,” he said back in November of last year. “For the last two or three years I’ve been saying that.

“I’ve been playing consistently well for my club and I feel like I really want to keep pushing. I see my friends here who are playing Champions League and for big trophies.

“You only get one career and at the end you want to look back at what you’ve won and the biggest games you’ve played in.”
