Man United takeover: Gary Neville slams Glazers after latest ‘embarrassing’ development

Gary Neville has delivered a scathing attack on the Glazers after it emerged that Manchester United’s takeover is unlikely to be resolved before the start of next season.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani remain locked in talks with the Red Devils’ owners in their bid to buy the club for a fee in the region of £6billion.

The protracted takeover process still has no end in sight, despite The Guardian reporting on the Qatari Sheikh emerging as the frontrunner to seal a deal after a fifth and final offer to buy United.

Sheikh Jassim is said to be considering a role for club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford if his proposal is successful, with fans hoping for a speedy resolution after it emerged that his Nine Two UK Holdings company had formally been set up for the acquisition.

However, the Daily Mail have stated that, even once a preferred bidder is chosen, the sale could take as many as 12 weeks to be completed.

That has led to United legend Neville hitting out at the Glazer family for a delay that he has described as “fitting” for how their controversial tenure in charge of the club has gone.

“Embarrassing,” he labelled the news to BBC radio.

“But it’s what they have done, drag everything out, it's always in their best interests.

“Fans not being updated by owners on the ownership sale is not good enough, but fitting with how they have operated for 20 years now.”
