Manchester United star Scott McTominay found the back of the net twice for Scotland on Tuesday night during a historic 2-0 win over Spain in their European Championship qualifiers .
Newcastle United have been heavily linked with a summer move for McTominay. Casemiro's arrival at Old Trafford has seen the Scot fall down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag, but now it appears that he may well have been given an escape route out of Manchester and potentially on his way to St James' Park.
Should Eddie Howe's side qualify for European football - whether Champions League or otherwise - their squad depth will be severely tested. McTominay could well bolster the Magpies midfield ranks with doubts remaining over whether he would start for Newcastle.

Yet the 26-year-old showcased exactly what he can bring to the club on Tuesday evening as he scored both goals for Scotland in their 2-0 win over Spain. Some good work from Liverpool's Andy Robertson saw him cut the ball back to the penalty spot where McTominay calmly swept home past Kepa Arrizabalaga with the aid of the slightest deflection to open the scoring after just seven minutes.
Steve Clarke's side would double their lead in the second-half after Arsenal star Kieran Tierney - also linked with a move to Tyneside - launched a marauding run down the left-hand side before his deflected cross fell to McTominay, who timed his run from deep to lash home a left-footed volley into the bottom corner from inside the area.
The Man United star played as a striker in the club's youth ranks and his finishing skills would certainly have caught the eye of Newcastle who were no doubt watching on.
Elsewhere, the only other Newcastle star in action on Tuesday was 18-year-old Garang Kuol. Australia took on Ecuador once again in an international friendly but this time the teenager failed to repeat his heroics as he only appeared for a 20-minute cameo off the bench, failing to turn things around for his side as the Socceroos lost 2-1.
