Harry Maguire has been told to step down as captain and hand it over to a Manchester United teammate.
Whether it's this season or next, there seems to be an issue with leadership at the club and that could be solved with a new permanent manager. Ajax boss Erik ten Hag has been touted as favourite to enter the Old Trafford dugout and the Manchester club may have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of their next manager.
And whoever does come in at the end of the season will have a major decision to make, whether or not to stick with David de Gea as the starting goalkeeper.
Here are Mirror Football's latest Manchester United headlines.

Richards' message to Maguire
Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has been told to relinquish the captain armband and pass it on to summer signing Cristiano Ronaldo.
Maguire has endured a bad season on the pitch, making a number of mistakes and looking nothing like the defender that played a major role in England reaching the Euro 2020 final over the summer. With United lacking leaders on the pitch, there's been a number of former players and managers who believe Ronaldo should be given the armband until the end of the season.
And former Man City defender Micah Richards is one of those voices who believes the former Leicester City defender's time as skipper is up.
Ten Hag boost
Manchester United are still searching for a Ole Gunnar Solskjaer long-term replacement having sacked him last November.
High up on their list is Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino and Ajax boss Erik ten Hag. And a hiring in the Netherlands may have given a hint to the next man in the Old Trafford dugout. Ajax have hired former striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar in a non-playing role.
And it seems ten Hag may not have had much say in the move, signalling the team are gearing up for life without the 52-year-old.
Rangnick's De Gea decision
David de Gea has regained his spot as Manchester United's number one but has yet to do the same for Spain.
The shot-stopper was dropped last season by then-United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and was made to watch on as Dean Henderson cemented himself as the starter. But over the summer, De Gea was able to wrestle back the starting job as Henderson was out with injury and Covid-19.
This hasn't translated to the international scene though and his latest omission from the Spain squad could hand interim manager Ralf Rangnick a difficult decision going forward.
