Man United join Arsenal in Adrien Rabiot transfer battle as they eye Lisandro Martinez repeat

Manchester United are interested in a move for Juventus and France international midfielder Adrien Rabiot this summer, reports The Athletic. The 27-year-old currently has one-year remaining on his deal with the Bianconeri, who are said to be welcome to letting him leave as part of a midfield shakeup.

United aren't the only side linked with the Frenchman this summer though, as Arsenal are another side that have been reported as monitoring the status of a potential transfer. The midfield in particular is an area that the Gunners are yet to fully strengthen in so far, despite their huge spending.

Mikel Arteta has made five signings in the transfer window before the season was underway, with a cost of over £100million attributed to those additions. Most were brought in to improve depth and quality, while others were added with a view of the future in mind.

However, the midfield pivot that Arsenal often opt for is yet to be bolstered over the course of the window so far, despite links to the likes of Lucas Paqueta and Youri Tielemans. football.london understands a midfielder is top of the club's transfer priority list, should they manage to move on some fringe players from the squad.

Should they manage that, a move for the linked midfielders could be on the cards, including Rabiot. However, the introduction of Manchester United to the mix makes for a potentially difficult scenario.

It could see the Gunners face a repeat of the Lisandro Martinez battle, with the 24-year-old picking Old Trafford over the Emirates Stadium when the two clubs faced off earlier this window. Should that happen, Arsenal could be dealt a huge blow in improving their central ranks.
