Man United handed double injury blow ahead of Liverpool clash

Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has confirmed he will be without both Fred and Scott McTominay for Tuesday night's Premier League clash against Liverpool.

The Reds welcome their Manchester rivals to Anfield next week as they return to league action following Saturday's dramatic FA Cup semi-final victory over Manchester City. Also on Saturday, United edged past relegation-bound Norwich City 3-2 at Old Trafford.

The Canaries drew level at 2-2 on 52 minutes but Cristiano Ronaldo sealed a hat-trick late on to keep his side's top four hopes alive.

Rangnick confirmed earlier this week that defender Luke Shaw is expected to be sidelined for the rest of the campaign, but following the draw against Norwich, he provided a further update on the midfield duo. They were both absent on Saturday.

He now expects them to miss the Liverpool game at Anfield and he also confirmed that Raphael Varane's fitness is also touch and go and he too remains a doubt for Tuesday. United will be out for revenge after the 5-0 defeat at the hands of Jurgen Klopp's side earlier this season.

The Liverpool boss will hope his side can produce a similar result against the Red Devils as they look to keep the pace with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table. Last weekend's 2-2 draw at the Etihad has kept the title race very much alive with just a point between the two teams.

The Merseyside club's quadruple hopes remain very much alive following the FA Cup victory over City and they also have a Champions League semi-final against Villarreal to look forward to.
