Wayne Rooney is one of three former Premier League players to have expressed an interest in the currently vacant managerial role at Southampton, according to reports.
The former Manchester United striker is currently in charge of MLS side DC United and was recently snubbed for the vacant role at Everton after Frank Lampard's departure. Rooney's former England teammates Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard are also said to be interested in the role at Southampton, who parted company with Nathan Jones on Sunday.
According to reports made via 90min, intermediaries from each of their camps have touched base with the Saints, with Jesse Marsch and Dean Smith also forming part of an early list of candidates. BetVictor currently prices Rooney at 33/1 to take up the job on the south coast.

Rooney, who joined Everton's youth academy at nine years old before signing for United as a teenager in 2004, was overlooked for the job at Goodison Park just last month, with the club opting to appoint former Burnley manager Sean Dyche.
Rooney is only in his second full managerial dole with DC having previously been in charge at Derby County and the 37-year-old admitted Dyche's Premier League experience meant he was always going to be a frontrunner.
''Sean Dyche is very experienced. It was always going to be an experienced manager,'' he recently told the Washington Post. He added: "It's the club I grew up supporting and loving. They are going through a very difficult period in the club's history, and they felt they had to change."
