Man United fitness boost as Raphael Varane and Edinson Cavani train ahead of Leeds clash

Raphael Varane and Edinson Cavani are back in Manchester United training ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash with rivals Leeds.

Varane was named in the starting lineup for the midweek victory over Brighton but pulled out before kick-off due to illness, with Victor Lindelof stepping in.

“On the way from the hotel, after dinner and the team meeting, he had stomach problems,” Rangnick explained after the game.

“We were hoping to get rid of it with medication but he did not feel well and that is why we played with Victor Lindelof instead.”

Cavani, meanwhile, did not feature against Brighton or in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Southampton because of a groin problem but the 35-year-old was back training with the rest of Rangnick’s squad at Carrington on Thursday.

Tuesday night’s 2-0 win over Brighton arrested a worrying dip in form that had seen United held at home by both Southampton and Burnley.

That victory saw them climb into the top four, but they may have been usurped by the time they face Leeds on Sunday afternoon, with fifth-placed West Ham in action against Newcastle in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off.
