Manchester United fans have rebutted the suggestion that Frenkie de Jong’s participation in Barcelona’s new kit launch means he will not be moving to Old Trafford this summer.
The Netherlands international was included in the images released by the club on Friday. He has been linked with a reunion with former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag at United this summer, with the Dutch coach in the market for new midfielders.
The pair won the Eredivisie title together in 2019 after reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League. After a hugely successful season with Ajax, De Jong then left for Barcelona.

In eras gone by, a player taking part in their club’s new strip launch often indicated their transfer intentions. But United fans have pointed out that in more recent years that has not been the case. Some on Twitter highlighted a number of examples while others jested that he would look better in United colours.
Despite this theory, recent comments from De Jong revealed his preference is to stay at Camp Nou. He said: "I understand that that link (with United) is made. I have enjoyed working with Ten Hag at Ajax – and I can’t look into the future, of course. But I prefer to stay at Barcelona.”
