A new season, a new manager and a new era yet, Manchester United turned in a patented uninspired display as they fell to a 2-1 opening day defeat too Brighton and Hove Albion.
United looked shaky throughout and their defensive frailties were exposed time and time again, with former United star Danny Welbeck running Harry Maguire and new boy Lisandro Martinez ragged throughout.
The Red Devils improved in the second half with Cristiano Ronaldo's introduction but it still wasn't enough as the Erik Ten Hag era got off to the worst possible start.

Unsurprisingly, after such a disastrous opening day, many fans of rival clubs took to Twitter to poke fun at their United counterparts.
"You guys are finished and the season is not even started. Dommed organization ty glazers YNWA," wrote Gary.
Kevin wrote, "Manchester United lost at Old Trafford against a weak & struggling side Brighton!"
Simon says, "That Manchester United result has no right to be as funny as it is."
Many fans pointed out that the United mascot 'Fred the Red' (not 'that' Fred) couldn't even bear to watch at one point.
And to add further insult to injury, even the official Brighton Twitter account got in on the act, posting a simple tweet which reads, "Just like Brighton, your City is Blue."
Man United go again next Saturday when they travel to Brentford with the new United manager Ten Hag is already under pressure.
