Man United 'beckons' for Jeremie Frimpong as Celtic transfer windfall skyrockets with Leverkusen decision made

Bayer Leverkusen star Jermaine Frimpong is reportedly on the brink of a move to Manchester United with talks between the clubs at an "advanced stage".

And that will have Celtic's higher-ups reaching for their calculators with the Scottish Premiership champions holding a bumper sell-on clause in the 22-year-old's current contract. The 22-year-old Dutchman came through the youth system at Manchester City before making the move to Celtic Park for just £300k - where he lifted every piece of silverware on offer in Scotland before making an £11.5million switch to the Bundesliga.

Frimpong's profile has only continued to rise since he made the move to Germany as he showed his pedigree in European competition and has earned a call-up to the Netherlands squad. He could be set for the next step with German outlet Bild reporting that Old Trafford "beckons" for the full back this summer.

Talks between the two clubs are reportedly at an "advanced stage" with Leverkusen set to demand a fee in the region of £50m. However, it is noted the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona could be lured into a bidding war and derail the deal - which could see Celtic's payday rapidly rising.

The former Parkhead star is seen as Erik ten Hag's replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but the Dutch boss is playing his cards close to his chest. The Man United boss heaped praise on his current right-back, stating: "He has improved a lot, as many players have improved during the season.

“That's one of the jobs for a manager and the coaching staff, to get that done [improve players] and we are really happy with it, that players are developing. Always the team spirit is the base and if players understand that, if they can set their egos aside, then you will see that the team develops and progresses."
