Two Premier League teams have joined in the bidding to sign Darwin Nunez this summer, according to reports. The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to both Arsenal and Chelsea in the upcoming transfer window.
For the Gunners, it comes ahead of a market in which signing a striker appears to be a priority following Alexandre Lacazette ’s exit. Discussing the need for a goal scorer, Mikel Arteta said: “He puts the ball in the net – that’s priority number one. Goal threat. Any successful team needs enough goal threat in the squad. Without it, you have nothing.”
As for the Blues, their desire for a forward to score consistently was shown throughout the previous campaign. That is despite Romelu Lukaku making the club-record switch back to Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian has been heavily linked with a move away from the Blues, though Thomas Tuchel has responded to potential meetings with his agent: “If he plans to talk with the owner then maybe it's not his plan to talk with me. If he gets a meeting, maybe he can talk. It's his right and we will talk to anybody and evaluate the situation of any player including Romelu."
A number of players have been linked with both clubs, including Benfica striker Darwin Nunez. The 22-year-old scored 26 goals in 28 league appearances as well as six goals in the Champions League.
The Uruguay international is also believed to have bids on the table from other Premier League clubs. According to journalist Sebas Giovanelli, both Newcastle and Manchester United are bidding and are most likely to sign him this summer.
However, with plenty of time left in the window, it remains to be seen whether he will definitely make the move to either team, or if he will end up elsewhere.
