A father of three is being flown to Perth from Western Australia's north after nearly losing his arm in a shark attack.
The man has been identified as Robbie Peck, a committee member of Port Hedland's spearfishing club.
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development confirmed he was spearfishing offshore from Port Hedland when he was attacked this morning.
Mr Peck was bitten moments after spearing a fish, the department said in a statement.
He was flown to Perth in a Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) aircraft which touched down at Jandakot Airport just after 7.30pm.
Mr Peck was brought back to shore by boat just after 11.30am, where he was treated by paramedics.
St John Ambulance said he was rushed to Hedland Health Campus as a priority 1 patient.
The RFDS, whose team from Meekatharra responded to the incident, said the Mr Peck suffered multiple serious injuries and his left arm was almost severed at the shoulder.
The Pilbara Ports Authority, where the man works, said it would do what it could for Mr Peck and his loved ones.
"Pilbara Ports Authority's thoughts and concerns are with our colleague and we are providing support to his family and co-workers," a spokesperson said.
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is investigating the incident and working with local authorities to coordinate responses.
It is urging people in the Port Hedland area to take additional caution.
