BENGALURU: A 30-year-old man died near Hebbal police station bus stand on Saturday evening after he accidentally came in contact with a live wire. The wire was allegedly illegally drawn for an advertisement hoarding.
The accident occurred at 9.40pm and a case has been registered at Hebbal police station. Until late on Sunday, police had not identified the deceased.
According to Bescom officials, the accident occurred after the man touched the metal part of the bus shelter. The executive engineer, assistant executive engineer and section officer of Hebbal Bescom division visited the spot and found an unauthorised extension of low-tension power through aluminium over-head wire, drawn by a private advertising agency from the pole near the bus stand.
Officials said the power installation for the advertising agency was disconnected in December 2020 following non-payment of bills. The bill amount was adjusted from the firm’s deposit and power was disconnected, but unauthorised power was drawn recently, they added.
Officials termed the incident “a fatal, non-departmental accident” and said Bescom vigilance wing has decided to file a complaint against the agency. TNN
