A man will face a district court trial over an allegation he robbed a man of $6000 while armed with a gun earlier this year.
Mathew Damien Brennan, 47, pleaded not guilty to one charge of robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon - and a backup count of robbery in company - when he faced Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday.
According to court documents, the Hamilton South man allegedly stole $6000 from a man in Newcastle East, while armed with a sawn-off firearm, in the late morning of January 22 this year.
He was arrested and charged four days later and has remained in custody on remand since then.
Mr Brennan appeared in court via video-link from jail on Wednesday, when he formally entered pleas before Magistrate Caleb Franklin.
He will be arraigned in Newcastle District Court and a trial date will be set.
The matter was adjourned to October 10.
