A man threatened a woman with a gas-powered BB gun after an argument between them in Nottingham. Firearms officers arrested 36-year-old George Vulcan after they were called to the incident at a house in Melrose Street, Sherwood on January 6.
The BB gun was found hidden behind a wooden boiler cover following his arrest. Vulcan, of Melrose Street, was subsequently charged and pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm.
He was jailed for three years and made subject of a 10-year restraining order when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, June 27. Police Constable Zoe East, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The gun Vulcan used to threaten the victim looked very realistic. She believed it was real, causing her fear of immediate violence. “Although it was a gas-powered BB gun, it was tested and had the capability of firing over that of an imitation, making it a viable firearm.

“As shown in this case, we treat all reports of firearms offences incredibly seriously and will always thoroughly investigate. There is simply no excuse for anyone to threaten someone with a firearm, real or otherwise, or indeed to behave in a violent manner at all.
“This incident should serve as a warning to anyone thinking of brandishing an imitation firearm that this will always be met with robust action by Nottinghamshire Police. If you are criminal and carrying a firearm in Nottinghamshire, we will find you and use the weight of the law to put you behind bars.”
