Man thinks date's mum has answered the door - but realises he's been catfished

Tinder is a minefield - and that's putting it politely. From people blocking you out of the blue when you think there's a spark, to people who are blatant catfishes, to people who clearly have a one-track mind, there are so many different things that can (and often do!) go wrong. One man was left stumped, however, when he drove 30 minutes to go on a date with a woman and he soon realised that he'd been catfished.

Paul Jones took to TikTok to make a hilarious video detailing his experiences in a video which was captioned 'just got catfished.' He explained that he was going on a date with a woman and was meeting her at her house. He said he knocked on the door and her mum answered and he explained that he was there to see Sarah.

He said: "And she was like, ‘Yeah yeah yeah, come in, come in.’ She was talking to me downstairs for about 10 minutes and I was like, ‘oh is Sarah coming down then?’"

It was then that Paul got a massive shock - it was Sarah.

He joked that he'd been catfished by an old person, but didn't say that to her, opting instead to be slightly more sensitive by telling her she didn't really look like her pics online.

The woman then admitted that she didn't look like her pictures because they were taken 25 years ago.

Paul continued: ""And then she had the cheek to say, ‘Oh you’re running a bit late aren’t you?’

"Yeah, I’m about 30 years late by the looks of it."

The pair ended up heading out regardless - to the bingo, and Paul said he 'felt like a child that’s been taken out by their grandmother'.

After the 'date', Paul just wanted to head home, but Sarah cheekily invited him in for a coffee, and when Paul said no, she rudely said she didn't actually mean coffee, hinting at something else.

Paul then said he saw her as 'friends', rather than anything more romantic.

When he got home, Paul looked at Sarah's profile on Tinder again to clarify whether there were any red flags he should've picked up on prior to their date.

He said: "I wish I’d looked at it in more detail because she was standing in front of Woolworths, which closed down in like 2009. Why didn’t I pick that up?

"I tell you what, a message for Tinder, your new slogan should be, ‘Swipe right and get a fright.’"

Despite his dating disaster, people found it absolutely hilarious and flocked to the comments section to praise the man for seeing the funny side of the Tinder date.

One wrote: "Proud of the way you dealt with the situation though, it must've been horrendous but you treated her with respect - shows the kind of person you are!"

"I can't believe you went to bingo after that", one joked.

Another commented: "It’s the 30 years late part for me", followed by crying with laughter emojis.

Another TikToker offered some dating advice for the future, writing: "That is why I am cautious on dating sites...ask for a selfie with today's paper in their hand!"
