Man takes a number of tablets from Limerick supermarket as gardai broadcast suspect's picture on RTE

Gardai in Limerick are appealing for information in relation to computer tablets stolen from a supermarket last October.

The incident was featured on the latest episode of RTE’s Crimecall on Monday night, along with CCTV footage.

A number of computer tablets were stolen from a supermarket in Newcastle West, Limerick, in “broad daylight” in October 2021.

The theft occurred on Bishop Street, Newcastle West at approximately 4pm on October 17, Gardai confirmed to the Irish Mirror.

Garda Greg Freeman spoke of the incident on the popular crime show earlier this week and said: “A man approaches the shelf and picks up three android computer tablets.

“He then walks to another part of the shop where he puts one of the tablets on the floor and proceeds to conceal in a bag before walking away.”

The man then goes back for more.

“Minutes later, he returned to the same spot, picks up the remaining tablet and puts that into his bag as well.

“The man then walks out of the shop carrying the three concealed devices and leaves without paying for any of them," Freegrove said, the Limerick Leader reports.

No arrests have been made at this time, with investigations ongoing.

An Garda Siochana are appealing for anyone who may recognise the man from the CCTV footage or who may have any further information to contact either Newcastle West Garda station or their local station.

“Anyone with any information in relation to this incident is asked to contact Newcastle West Garda station on 069 20650, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station,” a spokesperson said.
