Man taken to hospital with 'major trauma' injuries after HGV crash

A man has suffered 'major-trauma related injuries' in a crash.

The man was driving a Ford KA that was involved in a crash with a HGV at around 4.35am this morning - August 18.

Emergency services including fire crews and police were called to the A59, close to Croston Road after the incident, LancsLive reports.

Police cordoned off the road in both directions, between Spark Lane and Sandy Lane, following the accident while clear up and an investigation took place.

North West Ambulance service took the driver of the KA, thought to be in his 50s, to hospital with 'major-trauma related injuries.'

A Lancashire Constabulary spokesperson said: "We were called at around 4:35am this morning (Wednesday, August 18) to the report of a serious collision involving a HGV and a Ford Ka on the A59 close to Croston Road, Tarleton.

"The driver of the Ka has been taken to Aintree Hospital.

"A diversion is in place whilst the road is closed and motorists are being asked to avoid the area."

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said they were called to the scene at 4.38am.

A spokesperson said: "Two fire engines from Tarleton and Ormskirk attended a road traffic collision involving a large goods vehicle and a car on Liverpool Road in Rufford.

"Firefighters extricated one casualty from the collision who was taken to hospital by ambulance."

Traffic monitoring service Inrix said: "A59 Liverpool Road in both directions closed due to accident investigation work between Spark Lane and Sandy Lane (the Rufford Arms).

"Following an accident involving a lorry and a car at the junction with Croston Road around 04:40 this morning."
