Man taken to hospital after two-car smash on busy East Kilbride road

A man has been taken to hospital after a two-vehicle smash in East Kilbride this afternoon.

There were tailbacks on roads leading to and from the Kingsway following the crash - although the road has now reopened say police.

It is understood the incident happened shortly after 1pm near to the petrol station on the Kingsway.

One witness posted: "Avoid Kingsway due to smash, avoid any route to Whitemoss roundabout, roundabout blocked so all routes to it gridlocked."

Another wrote: "I would avoid the Kingsway BP garage side road totally blocked due to bad crash."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 1.10pm on Wednesday, December 28, police were called to a two-vehicle road crash on the A725, Kingsway, East Kilbride.

"One man has been taken by ambulance to Hairmyres Hospital as a precaution. There are no further details at this time.

"The road is now open.”

In September, a 50-year-old male pedestrian was struck by a Volkswagen Golf on the same stretch of road and was pronounced dead at the scene.

This led to calls for improved safety measures on the busy stretch of road from local residents and EK MSP Collette Stevenson.
