Man taken to hospital after 'armed police' are said to have attended reports of disturbance involving machetes

A man has been taken to hospital after reports of a disturbance involving machetes in a Cardiff suburb.

Police were called to Penmark Road, Ely, at 11.35am on Sunday (April 30). There were reports locally that the incident involved machetes and witnesses said there was a large police presence in the area on Sunday morning.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: "One man has been taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries." She added that inquiries into the incident were "on-going". You can get more Cardiff news and other story updates straight to your inbox by subscribing to our newsletters here.

A local resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said the incident happened at around 11.15am and that they also believed machetes had been involved. They said: "There was an armed response unit, around six to seven police vehicles, CID and an ambulance and they were here for about two hours.

"Part of the area was cordoned off. The injured man was on the floor."
