Man suffers stab wounds during alleged attack at Armagh property

A male has been arrested after a report of an aggravated burglary took place in a private residence in Armargh on Wednesday night, in which a man sustained stab wounds.

Police received a report at around 8:55pm that a man, armed with a knife, forced his way into a house in the Aghanore Walk area of Armagh, in Northern Ireland, Belfast Live reported.

Police officers investigating the incident said it was reported that a 46-year-old man, who was inside the property, received several stab wounds during the incident. The man sustained injuries to his neck and hands.

A man, believed to be aged in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of related offences and is currently in custody at this time.

UK legislation states that a person is guilty of aggravated burglary if he commits any burglary and at the time has with him any firearm or imitation firearm, any weapon of offence, or any explosive.

A “weapon of offence” means any article made or adapted for use for causing injury to or incapacitating a person, or intended by the person having it with him for such use.

A person guilty of aggravated burglary shall on conviction on indictment be liable to imprisonment for life, UK legislation relating to aggravated burglary states.

PSNI Detective Sergeant McCarragher said: “Enquiries are continuing and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference number 2096 15/02/23."
