Man suffers head injury being hit with glass bottle during brawl outside Sunderland pub

A man sustained a head injury after being hit over the head with a glass bottle during an altercation in Sunderland involving five people.

Three men were injured during an altercation after an argument with two men in the Promenade pub in Seaburn on Saturday, May 20. One man suffered a head injury after being hit over the head with a glass bottle and another was injured in the eye by a piece of glass. A third man was punched in the head.

All three men were taken to hospital for treatment and an investigation has now been launched. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At 12.30am on Saturday, officers received a report of an altercation on Queens Parade, in Seaburn. It was reported that while in the Promenade pub, three men were approached by another two men before a verbal argument ensued.

“While outside the premises, one of the three men reported being hit over the head with a glass bottle, causing a head injury. Another of the men suffered an injury to his eye after a piece of glass from the bottle hit him, while another man reported being punched in the head.

“All three men went to hospital for treatment of injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening. Police are investigating the report and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
