Man struggling to sleep in heatwave shares 'godsend' £10 hack - but it's meant for dogs

With the UK basking in another heatwave, it means many of us are struggling to get to sleep during the hot and sticky nights.

Because air conditioning isn't common in the UK, many of us are having to test out different things to cool ourselves down, from sleeping with a frozen hot water bottle, to soaking towels in cold water and placing them in strategic locations around the home.

However, one savvy man thinks he's cracked how to sleep through the night while remaining cool with an amazing hack - but it's actually meant for dogs.

Taking to the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group, he revealed he'd paid only £10 for a cooling mat from B&M, and he credited it to keeping him cool through the night.

He then posted a picture of the item, a large 90x70cm Pet Cooling Mat, which it says "dramatically cools down when your pet sits on it".

The man didn't see any reason it shouldn't be used for humans too, and showed that he had been placing the blue cooling mat on his bed, with a fan pointing directly to it.

He wrote in the caption: "For those struggling to sleep on a hot night with fans on get urself to B&M and get these for urself.

"They work as soon as you lay on them I just tried it and it felt sooooooo good".

The post received hundreds of commons, with many people adding that it's also "great for menopausal women unable to sleep" and also people who are pregnant.

Another person said: "Mine's in the fridge as I type lol. Definitely a godsend".

A second added: "These were an absolute godsend when I was heavily pregnant."

A third agreed, adding: "I remember when I was pregnant. I’d put mine in the freezer and then cover with a light blanket. Was amazing."

"I will be getting one of these," a fourth added.

While another admitted: "My dog wouldn't use his so I did instead!"

However, several people added that while they definitely cooled them down to begin with, they tended to return to normal temperature after a while.

One person said: "They are ok for a short time but they warm up, you have to either swap them about or take them off."

The item's description on the B&M website reads: "Give your beloved pet somewhere comfortable and cool to sit in warm weather.

"This Pet Cooling Mat is safe, requires no electricity or water, and is non-toxic."
