A man was stabbed in a drunken row before he died in hospital over the weekend, we can reveal.
Gardai were last night waiting on postmortem results following the death of the 60-year-old in the early hours of Saturday morning in West Dublin. But investigators are following a definite line of inquiry in relation to the fatal attack, which may be upgraded to murder.
A source said: “There was some sort of altercation and the victim was stabbed. There’s been no arrests yet but a definite line of inquiry is being followed.”

The stabbing happened at around 2.50am on the Old Navan Road, Mulhuddart. It is understood that a number of witnesses were present at the time.
The victim, originally from Bosnia, was rushed to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown where he was later pronounced dead.
His body was brought to Dublin City Mortuary where a postmortem was carried out over the weekend. Officers probing the brutal attack are still establishing the circumstances surrounding the incident but they believe that the victim and the attacker were known to each other and had been boozing together on Friday night into Saturday morning.
A Garda spokesman said last night: “Gardai are appealing to any person who was in the vicinity of Blanchardstown Road North, the Old Navan Road and Blanchardstown Shopping Centre and surrounding areas between 12am and 3am, and observed any activity which drew their attention to come forward.”
