A man has been stabbed in Glasgow's east end in broad daylight, sparking a police investigation.

Officers were called to Bridgeton Cross in Bridgeton on Tuesday following reports of a stabbing in the area. The alarm was raised at around 12.45pm.

Medics describe his condition as serious but stable. Police have launched a probe into the incident, which they describe as a 'serious assault'.

Anyone with information that could help with their enquiries is urged to come forward. Detective Constable Sarah Steven stressed that information can be passed on anonymously.

She said: "Enquiries are at an early stage to establish exactly what has happened and I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the assault, or noticed anything suspicious, to contact us. A man sustained serious injuries as a result of this incident and it is vital we trace whoever is responsible.

"Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting incident number 1398 of Tuesday August 2. Alternatively, calls can be made anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
