An unfortunate incident occurred at Long Island's Adventureland Amusement Park in New York, resulting in a Florida man being left in critical condition late Sunday afternoon. The incident disrupted a family vacation over the Fourth of July weekend. The park is located approximately 35 miles east of New York City in suburban Suffolk County.
Following the attack, police took a New York man into custody. The suspect, identified as Daniel Tomasky, a 42-year-old from Shirley, is facing charges that include assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child. Tomasky was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday morning.
The victim, James Burns, a 47-year-old from Edgewater, Florida, was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Police revealed that Burns and Tomasky were acquaintances and were involved in an altercation with several other individuals inside the park around 5 p.m. on Sunday.
During the altercation, Tomasky allegedly brandished a knife and stabbed Burns in the stomach in the presence of at least one child. Suffolk County police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.
Following the incident, authorities temporarily closed down a section of the park, but it was reopened later in the evening. Despite the shocking nature of the attack, some park visitors downplayed the event, with one individual stating that such incidents are unfortunately becoming more common and expected.
This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety and security measures in public spaces, and authorities are working diligently to ensure the well-being of all visitors to Adventureland Amusement Park.
