Man spits at police as he's arrested for posting naked photos of woman on social media

A thug spat at police officers as they arrested him for posting intimate photos of a naked woman on social media.

Cory Slade, 29, made his victim feel "digusted and degraded" by the photos which were posted on the defendant's Snapchat and What'sApp accounts.

He also included hurtful captions on the photos, which said "You need to sort your rat out", "Everybody screenshot (the victim's) photo" and "See how you like my What'sApp photo you dirty f****** slag".

When the victim called the police, officers attended Slade's home in Newport on January 23 and found him asleep on a sofa but when they woke him up he became aggressive and spat at officers while attempting to resist arrest.

A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday heard the victim was not aware the photos and videos had been taken by Slade, until hesent them to her.

He also tagged her in the Snapchat posts so all of his friends would know who was in the photos.

In a victim personal statement read out to the court by prosecutor Talia Keskin, the victim said: "When (Slade) put of the images I felt disgusted and very degraded. It wasn't just the photos but the captions. I worried that people who knew me had seen the photos and would ask me about them....

"I am conscious about my body and this made it worse. He knew I would not have consented to these photographs and I feel its a complete invasion of my privacy."

Ms Keskin said Slade was believed to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time of his arrest, and was "sweating profusely" and had "blood shot eyes".

She described the defendant as being disruptive and resisted arrest before launching himself at an officer who took Slade to the ground. He was restrained and began spatting at the officers, hitting PC Hendry with spit.

Body worn footage played to the court showed Slade being placed in straps and he was moved to the police van but he continued struggling, swearing and spitting. He hit PC Hendry with spit a second time and began hitting his head against the walls of the van while spitting on the floor.

In a victim personal statement, PC Hendry said: "I was disgusted by his behaviour and the way he treated everyone around him. At every opportunity he was fighting back and resulted in him assaulting me.

"For him to basically spray bodily fluid over my face I think is disgusting, unacceptable and immoral."

The defendant, of Spencer Way, Newport, later pleaded guilty to disclosing a private sexual photograph, assaulting an emergency worker and criminal damage. The court also heard he had previous convictions for assauling police officers and offences against the person.

In mitigation, Tim Evans conceded his client's behaviour was "revolting" but he pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and now wants to move on.

He said Slade had reacted badly to being placed in handcuffs having just been woken up and feeling hungover, but he "bitterly regrets" that now.

Sentencing, Recorder IWL Jones said: "(Your victim) felt disgusted, degraded and this was a complete invasion of privacy."

He added: "Those officers were doing their jobs, literally just doing their jobs but you spat at PC Hendry in his face and glasses. The spitting was disgraceful behaviour by you, especially because this pandemic is still ongoing."

Slade was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment and was made subject to a restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim until further order.
