Man sparks fierce debate about best time to get off the plane after landing

Catching a flight is never quite as simple as you would think.

Whether you should give up your seat for a family, or clean up mess made by someone else - there are all sorts of matters passengers have disagreed over recently.

Then there's all the unspoken rules and tricks of the trade that plane experts share. For instance: did you know you should never wear leggings during a flight? At least, you shouldn't according to one professional.

So it's easy to see why a passenger sparked a fierce dispute after asking Reddit users whether they disembark the plane at the earliest available opportunity after landing.

For reasons he didn't fully explain, the man revealed he prefers to wait it out. "I don't get off my seat when the plane lands. I wait until most of the people have gotten off," he wrote in an incendiary post.

When later quizzed on the reasoning behind his firm stance, the passenger added: "Because I'm not a moron."

However, not everyone felt the same. Although some commenters agreed with the suggestion, another wrote: "I gotta be one of the first off."

Backing up the original author, someone else added: "The only logical thing to do really. Or else everyone just ends up standing on top of each other and dropping suitcases on other people's heads.

"Yes. I have witnessed that happen."

But in bad news for anyone left wondering about departure etiquette, commenters struggled to come to a consensus. The same problem arose back in February when a reality TV star sparked a similar debate.

Batsheva Haart, who starred in My Unorthodox Life, posted a video to her TikTok as she waited to exit a plane. In the clip, passengers stand up around her as Batsheva stays seated and the text over her video reads: "Sitting in my seat instead of standing up until its my row's turn to deplane."

However, not everyone thought the star took the right approach when her video reached over 2.2 million viewers. Some said they agreed with her but others pointed out there might be a reason why people are rushing.

"Some people have layovers that are short and don't have time to sit around and wait", someone replied. Another put: "Some of us stand to stretch our backs. Has nothing to do with getting off sooner and hurts absolutely no one."
