A manhunt is under way over the suspected murder of a 31-year-old woman found dead in a western Sydney home.

Ashley Gaddie, 33, is wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant over the murder of Dannielle Finlay-Jones, police said on Tuesday.

Ms Finlay-Jones was found with serious injuries at the Cranebook home on Sunday afternoon and could not be revived.

Gaddie is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 180cm tall and of muscular build with blue eyes and a bald head.

Both of his arms are heavily tattooed and he is known to frequent the areas of Five Dock, Penrith and Mt Druitt.

Police believe Ms Finlay-Jones and Gaddie were known to one another, saying there were no signs of forced entry and they did not believe it was a case of arbitrary violence.

"We don't believe that this is a random act," Acting Commander for Nepean, Chief Inspector John Nelson said on Monday.

Ms Finlay-Jones worked as a teacher and a student learning support officer for the NSW Department of Education, according to her Facebook page.

Her family has requested privacy.
