The Met Police has released an image of a man alleged to have followed and spat at a woman in east London.

Officers are investigating an incident in Newham, where a man approached a 19-year-old woman. The woman told the police she had been approached by the man in the Stratford Westfield shopping centre last December.

The man asked the woman out on a date but she refused.

A day later he returned and proceeded to spit at her, the police were told.

Detective Constable Marlon Caldwell, who is leading the investigation, said: “As a result of this man’s actions the victim now completely avoids Stratford Westfield shopping centre.

“No one should ever have to modify their behaviour because of the unwelcome actions of somebody else.

“Incidents of this nature are completely inappropriate and we are conducting a full and through investigation to bring the person responsible to justice.

“I would therefore ask the public for their help, if you recognise him please get in touch with us.”
