Man slams 'hellhole' hotel as he arrives to hear guests shouting for their money back

Guests could be heard shouting at hotel staff demanding their money back at an infamous Blackpool hotel.

A guest vowed to never return to one of Blackpool's most notable hotels after they claimed to arrive to people shouting for a refund, comparing the scenes to "Prisoner: Cell Block H", Lancs Live reports. When the guest visited the Norbreck Castle Hotel, they claimed they found holes in the rooms and used plates and cups lining the corridors.

They took to consumer website TripAdvisor to air their grievances with the hotel owned by Britannia Group, the same firm that owns Liverpool's Adelphi Hotel,

Located towards Blackpool's North Shore, the hotel has a collective rating of two out five on the review site. Of the more than 8,200 reviews, only 567 rate the hotel as "excellent" while 5,000 slam the hotel with "poor" and "terrible" reviews.

One of the more recent reviews was left by a traveller this month. Nicholas H's review went as far as describing the hotel as a "hellhole". The full review reads: "Never again. When we arrived people at reception asking for their money back shouting. Rooms like Prisoner: Cell Block H, food only warm.

"Walking down corridors all used plates, glasses out side of rooms, a big hole in the wall in my wife and daughter's room. Avoid at all costs."

Other guests who stayed this year offered a very different view to Nicholas H, adding the hotel 'did the job'.

The review left in March 2023 said: "Do you know what? It did the job. Staff helpful when checking in. Bar staff moody. Very lively and lots of tracksuit bottoms around! Clean and did the job. Don't expect the world if you only paying 30 odd pounds as you won't get it."

Another positive review claimed the hotel was the best they'd ever stay in when they visited the resort. They said: "I've been coming to this hotel for many years, and this is the only hotel I will ever stay at when visiting Blackpool. I honestly cannot fault it, rooms are always and have always been clean. Always have a good night's sleep.

"The staff are amazing and cannot be faulted at all, very friendly and helpful. People always have a mentality when staying at a hotel of expecting the very best of the best, I'd say wake up and live in the real world, you get what you pay for and let's face it, your only sleeping in the hotel, that's it.

"Nothing at all wrong with this hotel. They also do a banging all you can eat breakfast! I'll admit the hotel is really outdated, but so what? You're only sleeping there."

LancsLive contacted Britannia Hotels for comment but received no reply prior to deadline.
