A man is in a serious condition after being shot and another man has facial injuries after a "significant incident" involving police in inner Brisbane.

Police reportedly shot the man who allegedly slashed the officer's face with a knife at Kangaroo Point about 11.30am on Wednesday, according to media reports.

A police spokesperson refused to provide any details other than the suburb the incident occurred, but told AAP it was a "signicant".

Queensland Ambulance Service says a man who suffered a gunshot wound was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

A second man who suffered facial injuries was also taken to hospital in a stable condition, a QAS spokesperson added.
