A man who was shot in the stomach while walking to his car managed to drive himself to hospital in the early hours of this morning. Multiple rounds were fired at the victim, believed to be in his 40s, at Wilton Manor apartments in Cork, Ireland, at around 5.30am this morning.
The man managed to scramble into his car despite being shot in the stomach, and drove himself to hospital and checked in at accident and emergency. From there he was rushed into the operation room and underwent surgery, reports Cork Beo.
Gardai have sealed off two scenes as they now hunt for the shooter - one outside the apartments and another at Cork University Hospital where he collapsed. A garda spokesperson said the victim is stable.
A motive for the attack has yet to be established, and the victim wasn't known to gardai before this morning's incident. A forensics team has been sweeping the scene meanwhile gardai have been calling door-to-door around the area in a bid to find any potential witnesses.
CCTV is also being taken from the area. An incident room has been set up in Togher Garda Station and anyone with information is asked to get in contact with investigators there.
A spokesperson said: "Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances in relation to a man presenting himself with gunshot wounds at Cork University Hospital this morning Friday, May 12, shortly after 5am. The man remains in stable condition at Cork University Hospital.
"Gardaí are appealing to any persons who were in the Wilton area of Cork City between 5a.m. and 5.45a.m. this morning Friday and who may have noticed anything unusual to contact investigating Gardaí.
"Any road users with camera footage (including dash cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí. Anyone with information is asked to contact Togher Garda Station on 021 494 7120, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station."
