A young man shot dead at a property in west London was recently freed from jail for his part in the dismemberment of an accomplished jazz musician.
Janayo Lucima, 21, died on Comeragh Road, West Kensington shortly before 10.20pm on Easter Monday.
Paramedics treated him but despite their efforts, he died just before 11pm.
It has emerged Lucima, of Kensington, was convicted of perverting the course of justice in relation to the chopping up and disposal of William Algar’s body in December 2019.
Trumpeter Mr Algar, 53, known as Blaise, suffered mental health issues and was killed at his home in Barnes which being used as a base to sell drugs.
His arms and legs were removed using a Rambo knife in a bathtub and then buried at a nearby nature reserve.
Mr Algar’s rotting head and torso were discovered by police at his address after he was reported missing by his elderly mother when he didn’t get in touch over Christmas.
Street dealer Lucima, then 19, was sentenced to three years and three months at the Old Bailey in 2021.
Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, leading the Metropolitan Police investigation into his murder, appealed for witnesses to come forward.
He said: “This horrific incident took place at a busy time of the evening when many people in the area would have been going out, coming home from work or an evening out, or may have been driving through Comeragh Road, Barton Road or Palliser Road.
“I am keen to hear from these people.”
Emeka Dawuda-Wodu, also 19, admitted disposing of Mr Algar’s body but was cleared of killing him.
Days later, he stabbed to death rival drug dealer Ebrima Cham, 35, nicknamed the “Brim Reaper” as he slept in Hounslow and was later jailed for life with a minimum term of 31 years.
Three others were sentenced for their roles in Mr Algar’s death but nobody has been convicted of murder.
