PLANTATION, Fla. — A man was shot and killed by police at the Plantation Inn Hotel & Lounge, authorities said Sunday.
Plantation spokesman Officer Chavez Grant identified the victim as Homea Spence, who died on scene at the hotel on State Road 7. He said the shooting happened at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Grant said “the involved officers” are on paid administrative leave and were not injured. He would not specify how many officers were involved, when the incident happened, or what led to the shooting. Public records were not released Sunday.
He said the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is handling the investigation.
WPLG-Ch. 10 reported family said Spence had mental health problems and had recently completed a program under the Baker Act to deal with those issues.
