A man has died after being struck in the chest by an arrow in the remote Aboriginal community of Peppimenarti, 320 kilometres southwest of Darwin.
Northern Territory police on Wednesday said the 36-year-old had been pronounced dead after being taken to a local health clinic just before midnight on Tuesday.
An 18-year-old man is assisting police with their inquiries.
Major crime detectives and crime scene examiners have been sent to the community and officers from the Territory Response Group are there in a support capacity amid reports of unrest in the region.
"Police are working with elders, the local council and other government agencies to maintain community safety," police said in a statement.
