Man shot at US high school basketball match as terrified young children flee court

A man was shot as a high school basketball game descended into chaos in Oklahoma on Tuesday. Local police confirmed the unnamed male has been taken to hospital, with his current condition unknown.

Police confirmed that shots were fired when a fight occurred after the game in Oklahoma, with an investigation opened into the shooting. The incident took place at an Oklahoma school, with the game being live streamed as Del City High took on Milwood High.

Terrifying footage has emerged, showing young children on the court, before gunshots can be heard. The camera then quickly pans to two commentators, who get down after hearing the loud explosion and go to a commercial break.

The video appears to show fans scrambling for the exit when shots are fired, as multiple people are heard screaming amid the frenzy.

Del City High School principal Steve Gillaland issued a statement after the incident. It read: "After the completion of the boys basketball game against Millwood High School, a fight occurred and gunshots were fired inside the field house.

"The Del City Police Department is onsite and investigating the incident." He also confirmed the school would go to online, virtual classes in wake of the shooting.

According to TMZ Sports, police have not had any reports of students who were injured in the horrifying incident, with no arrests made at this time.

Police currently remain at the scene with investigations open, with KOCO ABC 5 News reporting that security had been present at the game amid concerns.

Speaking on the local news show, Major Brad Cowden of Del City Police said: "From an initial account from our officers, there was at least over 500 people here, the game had just concluded when the incident occurred."

Mirror Sport has contacted the Del City Police Department for further comment.
