Man shares secret to guarantee crispiest roast potatoes each time - with unlikely ingredient

A man has shared how he guarantees getting the crispiest roast potato every single time using one unlikely ingredient.

Everyone seems to have their own way to cook their roasties to perfection to make sure they don't let down Sunday lunch.

Overcooking, undercooking and a lack of seasoning can all be a recipe for disaster, the Mirror and Daily Star report.

Some people swear by Marmite, others prefer using OXO cubes but home cook Justin Taylor has revealed his own unique recipe.

Sharing how he makes the crispiest spud each time on Facebook, the 40-year-old says the secret ingredients are honey and mustard.

Uploading a picture of them, he added the caption: "Honey and mustard roast potatoes. Then Nutella bricks for dessert"

Justin's recipe goes as follows:

You will need:

  • Peeled and chopped white potatoes - quantity depends on how many people you're cooking for
  • Two teaspoons of Colman’s English mustard
  • Four teaspoons of squeezy honey
  • Black pepper and salt to taste

Method:

  1. Add pepper and the mustard into a bowl and blend them together.
  2. Then, add honey - make sure to mix thoroughly.
  3. Pre-heat your oven-safe roasting tray with oil and two tablespoons of butter and salt.
  4. Then add your potatoes and baste with the honey mustard mixture.
  5. When there's only 20 minutes left before they’re ready, baste them again - this will ensure they're full of flavour.
  6. Continue to baste every five minutes to keep them crisp.

Social media users agreed that Justin's meal looked to die for.

One person said: "They sound amazing – my mouths watering just reading that. Can’t wait to try them!"

And another added: "Yes, please."
