When you're cooking a recipe that calls for your egg yolk to be separated from the white, such as fresh pasta or meringues, it can be tricky to do this.
Trying to complete the task without creating a huge mess of your hands and worktops in the process might seem impossible, but it turns out there's a fast and easy way to do this using another common cooking ingredient.
It was shared on the TikTok account @problemsolved, which was created by USA Today to help people out with making everyday tasks easier.
Viral cooking hacks are a common feature on this account, and a recent video surrounding egg separation has gained huge traction, boasting 21.7k views and thousands of likes.
In the clip, a man stands in front of a countertop and a carton of eggs and begins by saying: "I love a good viral hack, and when it comes to separating egg yolks from egg whites, I've got a trick for you - actually, two."
He then cracks the egg into a place and produces the 'magic' ingredient for separating it - a simple clove of garlic.
The man explained: "This is more like a magic trick, but you use garlic to pick up egg yolk with your fingers. Rub garlic all over your clean fingers."
After doing this with the peeled clove, he gently lifted the yolk part from the plate and it instantly came away without any of the whites attached.
He admitted: "This isn't the most practical way to separate egg yolks but it is fun and I've had success with eggs with darker yolks."
As well as the garlic hack, the man also demonstrated how you can separate eggs using just an empty plastic water bottle.
With more eggs now on the plate, he squeezed the bottle to create a suction and placed the opening over one of the yolks.
By releasing his grip, the yolk was lifted clean off the whites and into the neck of the bottle, ready to be used.
In the comments, viewers were astounded at how easily these hacks seemed to work and praised the creator for sharing them.
One person said: "I love these ideas," and another wrote: "Wow, thanks for sharing."
Some others also suggested their own ways to do the task, with one person writing: "I have an egg strainer. Works great!"
To which the video's creator replied: "Yes! That's a good tip too!"
