Man shares 'game-changing' hack for opening wine when you don't have a corkscrew

A man on social media has shared a simple way to open up a bottle of wine when you haven't got a corkscrew handy.

There's little more frustrating than spending ages picking out the perfect wine - usually a more expensive one - and then returning home to find it's sealed with a cork and you haven't got the tool to open it.

But there's no need to start getting creative with a knife and trying to stab it out, potentially injuring yourself and wasting the bottle, as there's a much simpler solution that will get your wine open and ready to enjoy.

The hack was shared on TikTok by @maisonmirabeau, an account run by an English family living in Provence and making wine for a living.

Their most recent video has racked up over 1.5 million views as it's told people how to solve a common problem you might have when you're about to crack open a bottle of wine.

In the clip, the man starts by saying: "Have you ever been in this position? Really nice bottle of wine, no corkscrew. How do you open it? I'll show you."

He started by taking the capsule off from the top of the bottle, so that the cork is the only thing preventing you from opening it.

The man continued: "Secondly, you need a pair of shoes. Just one will do."

The bottle of wine is then inserted into the shoe so that it makes an L-shape. Then, all you need to do is find a hard and durable surface like a wall and start banging the shoe against it, holding the wine firmly in place.

After a couple of tries, you should see the cork start to slowly come out of the bottle, and you can do the rest of the job by hand.

In the comments, people praised the man for sharing his tip and some were astounded they'd never heard of it before.

One person said: "Game changer! This man has completed life! Well done sir."

Another commented: "Wow wish I knew this when I had to open a bottle with a nail file at a hotel room in Rome and the corkscrew broke."

And a third joked: "And there's me pushing it down with my thumb for years thinking I was the genius."
