Man shares £20 Ikea blind tip to prevent home overheating - and save on bills

Every year, the summer heatwaves seem to take us all by surprise with fans quickly selling out in shops and online, public transport reaching sweltering temperatures and homes feeling more like greenhouses than living spaces.

And, given the bleak weather we've experienced in recent months, many people will likely be ill-equipped for warm weather.

Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to combat the heat without spending a fortune or transforming your entire home.

A Reddit user has recently shared a nifty blind trick that will help you to keep the heat out throughout the summer – and it can cost as little as £20.

The man, who goes by the username of vbloke told fellow users: "IKEA sell these honeycomb style blinds. You can get them in complete light blocking or ones that let a bit of light through."

His Reddit post continued: "They're good at keeping outside heat out for when it gets hot in the summer."

And it seems the blinds aren't just handy for preventing your home from overheating - they can also make a big difference in the colder winter months, helping cut down your energy bills.

The man added: "They've helped keep my heating bills down as the honeycomb design helps trap heat in the place."

These blinds appear to be from IKEA’s cellular blind collection, where prices start from around £20.

The brand explains: "Cellular blinds are made up of different compartments. They were inspired by bees and the honeycomb structure acts as insulation to keep your room warmer in winter and cooler in summer."

They are available in a range of widths, lengths and colours available to suit most windows.

According to IKEA, they can be mounted on walls or ceilings, with wall fittings included when you buy the blinds.

Plus, they’ll also help to block out the sunshine in the mornings and evenings.

The blinds have a number of positive reviews online, with shoppers agreeing they do help with the heat.

One person wrote: "Excellent value for money. Looks really smart and does seem to manage the heat loss and gain in our conservatory."

Another added: "Good blind. Works well and will keep the warmth in and the heat out, etc."
