A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after his vehicle overturned after colliding with a fountain in Sunderland.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene on the A183 in Seaburn, Sunderland following a report of a crash shortly before 2am today (January 27). They subsequently closed the road and it remains so at the time of writing.
Emergency services attending the scene found a trapped man, who was then extracted from the vehicle. He was then taken to hospital for further treatment.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson confirmed that the man was seriously injured as a result of the incident.
They said: “Shortly before 2am today (Friday), we received a report that a vehicle had overturned after colliding with a fountain on the A183 in Seaburn, Sunderland.
“Emergency services attended and a male was extracted from the vehicle. He has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
“The road is currently closed.”
