A man is in a serious condition in hospital today after being stabbed by a group of men during a horror early-morning attack.
The 36-year-old was seriously assaulted during the incident which took place in Hurlford's Kerrmuir Avenue around 2.30am.
It's understood several men entered the property and left their victim with stab wounds before making off.
Police and ambulance crews raced to the scene with the man taken to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
Staff at the hospital have described his condition as serious.
Police have this afternoon launched an appeal for information and vowed to deploy additional patrols locally to reassure the public.
Detective Sergeant Sarah Holland, of Kilmarnock police station, said: “Our enquiries are at an early stage into this incident and work is ongoing to gather more information on the circumstances and further detail on the men responsible for this attack.
“We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area of Kerrmuir Avenue early on Wednesday morning who heard any disturbance or witnessed anything suspicious.
"We would also ask anyone who has dash-cam or personal footage that may assist our ongoing investigation to come forward.
“There are additional police patrols in the area to provide reassurance following this incident and anyone with concerns should speak to officers."
